It was such a wonderful day today. I love visiting submarine museums during my holidays so combining work and leisure. This holiday, I traveled almost 2000km by car (total will be 5000km with return) to see S513 Enrico Dandolo Submarine (Toti Class) in Museo Storico Navale Arsenale in Venice, Italy
After WWII Italian Navy gethered Guppy class US submarines like Turkish Navy. However after a while they decided to design indigenous submarines. And in just four years between (1961-1965) they designed, built and commissioned the first of the four Toti submarines. Boats were built in Monfalcone (now Fincantieri) shipyard. After the design of the boat, a wooden model was constructed to see everything fits properly on board. As a result a very well organized medium size hunter killer submarine of its time was achieved.
Toti Class submarines have 591 ton submerged (535 tons surfaced) displacements. 46.2m long submarines have a single pressure hull of 4.75m diameter. Enrico Dandolo has two diesel generators and a main electric motor.
Boat has four torpedo tubes and could fire wireguided Whitehead torpedos. They have cylindrical hydrophone arrays and passive ranging sonars which are located exterior of the pressure hull.
